Téarmaí Úsáide

If you use ABAIR technologies (e.g. synthetic voices, speech recognition, language models) in your work, you are asked to acknowledge ABAIR.

Use of ABAIR Technologies: Acknowledgement Required

ABAIR technologies (including TTS, ASR, LLMs, and all tools available through Léigh Dom and ABAIR's other platforms) are provided free of charge for community, educational, and non-profit use.

If you use ABAIR as part of your workflow, for example, to narrate documents, produce audiobooks, or generate spoken audio for public or private projects, we kindly ask that you acknowledge ABAIR in your materials.

This acknowledgement supports the continued development of freely available Irish-language speech and language technologies and helps communicate the impact of community use.

Why We Ask for This

ABAIR is a publicly funded research initiative – we are based in the Phonetics and Speech Lab., School of Linguistic, Speech and Communication Sciences and funded by the Department of Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht.

Acknowledging the use of our tools:

  • supports transparency
  • recognises the work of the research team
  • and promotes the development of an Irish-speech and language technology sector (in line with the 'Digital Plan for the Irish Language - Language Speech and Technology, 2023-2027')

Your Content and Our Service

Léigh Dom is a research tool provided as-is, with no warranty. Synthesis may fail, mispronounce, or be unavailable while the upstream service is down.

You retain ownership of any document you upload. The synthesised audio is yours to use, subject to the acknowledgement request above.

Only upload documents you have the rights to. Do not use the service to produce misleading, impersonating, or unlawful audio.

The Irish TTS service (synthesis.abair.ie) is operated by the ABAIR project; using this tool means your text passes through that upstream.

If you have questions about permitted uses, different formats for acknowledging ABAIR, or collaborations, please contact us at [email protected]
